At Murphy & Dittenhafer Architects, we feel lucky to have such awesome employees who create meaningful and impressive work.

Last year, we welcomed four new faces to the M&D team across our York and Baltimore offices. Take this chance to get to know them. We’re grateful for their contributions and excited for what they have yet to achieve!

Kristen Uhl, Administrative Assistant

Joined in: June 2024

Works at our: York office

Kristen’s story: Kristen is no stranger to M&D. She was an employee many years ago, working in interior design, drafting, and other capacities. After a career shift, during which she focused heavily on interior design as well as some administrative work, she’s back. Her journey back to M&D came naturally, having bumped into the wife of President Frank Dittenhafer II, at the salon.

Kristen says she loved working here before and that informed her decision to join again. “History and design are some of the things I enjoy,” she says, adding that M&D is a place where you can get plenty of both.

Steven Guerrisi, Architectural Designer

Joined in: June 2024

Works at our: York office

Steven’s story: A graduate of University of Pittsburgh and University of Pennsylvania, Steven took a detour after earning his Master’s in Archiecture degree to spend time in the academic space. He lived in Shanghai, China for a decade, helping high school students learn about Architecture. Now, Steven says, “M&D is a really great environment to practice architecture professionally again and grow in a collaborative and supportive space.”

Steven recently worked on the St. Mark’s Church renovation/expansion project, which involved adding a new 8,000-square-foot addition to a 100-year-old church. “That was a really good opportunity for me to learn how to make conceptual designs work in the real world,” he said.

Gabriel Tamblin, Architectural Designer

Joined in: October 2024

Works at our: York office

Gabriel’s story: As a Pennsylvania resident who graduated this past spring from Penn State University with a degree in Architecture, Gabriel was excited to find an opportunity with a firm in the state’s southcentral region. Plus, he liked the scale of M&D — just big enough for him to get the chance to be involved in all different facets of the design process.

“Currently, I’m trying to take a broad-brush approach to figure out what I like and get experience in numerous different project types,” he says. Over the long term, Gabriel would like to get more into historical preservation, single family residential homes, and mass timber structures. This is another reason why he chose M&D: We recently designed the Crispus Attucks York African American History and Cultural Center, which features a three-story mass timber structure that was erected in a matter of 11 days. Plus, as a drone hobbyist, he’s had the chance to use some of his skillsets like photogrammetry, where you take drone imagery and use it to make a 3D model.

Mitchell Pinkney, Architectural Designer

Joined in: April 2024

Works at our: Baltimore office

Mitchell’s story: With about seven years of industry experience — plus a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Architecture from Coppin State University and Morgan State University, respectively — Mitchell was excited to join the M&D team and make a difference in his hometown. “They have a lot of community-based projects and that’s something I was interested in,” says Mitchell.

Mitchell has always been involved in volunteering and giving back to his community, making that a strong driver for directing his career. He saw a lot of abandoned housing while living in Baltimore, and even had the chance to renovate urban rowhomes as an intern. At M&D, he’s working on renovating cabins in a public park that are integral to the community, serving as a place where youth can go for summer art and nature programs. He’s also working on a polycarbonate roof replacement project for a large indoor swimming pool. “It’s a great learning process,” he says.
